An Indonesian Market

How much fun is an Indonesian market? Lively,  full of fun and friendly banter as the vendors (mainly women) sell their fish, fruit, and vegetables from their kitchen gardens.

This market is on the island of Saparua in Maluku, Eastern Indonesia. See the women, their produce, and their children

Lovely to feel the market via these photos. The market ladies are always warm and happy to have a chat and laugh in response to a foreigner’s engagement. A joy to wander through.

  2. Paul James Nicoll says:

The photos capture well the atmosphere of the markets, and I smiled with good memories of them.
Such markets provide food for a large proportion of the world’s population. They are “wet markets”. When David Littleproud, the Australian Minister for Agriculture, called for an international inquiry into wet markets, I wondered whether he had ever visited one. I further doubted whether he knew what he was talking about.
    Thank you.

    Excellent photos, Ian.

  4. Gregory Roberts says:

Thank you Ian, terrific images that truly capture the essence of a market in Indonesia. I really enjoyed the wonderful women who all wait patiently for a buyer to stop at their stall, table, display, etc. Please keep well and importantly, on top of the world with happiness!
